Description
This concentration will provide a comprehensive theoretical basis and practical skills to master mathematical modelling, simulation, data assimilation and data analysis in an interdisciplinary setting.
While acquiring fundamental mathematical abilities, you will also focus on mathematics as a unifying scientific language. This allows you to formulate and communicate complex knowledge and hypotheses. This approach allows you compare theoretical results and numerical simulations with experimental data. To closely tie together mathematical theory and practice, this Master's profile will enable close cooperations with applied fields which are established research strengths of the University of Potsdam. These include the cognitive sciences, computer science, geosciences, life sciences, pharmacology and (bio)physics, among others. Current research topics cover a wide spectrum and include the modelling and analysis of eye movements during reading, the distribution of a drug's active ingredient across a body, the movement of amoebas along a nutrient gradient and problems in earthquake forecasting and climate modelling.
Successful completion of a Master's program under this profile opens doors for the student in a wide variety of professional careers. Beyond these, students will be prepared to pursue a PhD.
